Text and Your Website

Good text is the key to a successful websites.  You may not realize it but Google and the other search engines can't see the pictures on your website.  They do not know if the website is pretty or ugly.  So the primary way search engines evaluate your website is by reading the text on your website. One of the most important factors to getting a page to rank is to have plenty of text on each page (Minimum 250 to 400 words), make sure it has been spell checked and also make sure that it is relevant to the keywords in the meta-tags (title, description, etc) for that page by repeating the same keywords that are in the tags in the text of the page itself a few times.

Stickiness

No one likes to read advertisements.  They are boring.  And so very few people will go back and read them a second time.  On the other hand if text is written in the form of information to help the visitors on your website to find what it is they are searching for they may come back over and over again.  Especially if you add additional pages of related information and even add tips and suggestions.  Believe it or not it's critical to your websites rankings that people don't visit just once, but rather come back over and over again because Google tracks user actions on your website.  If everyone only came once and read one page Google would assume your website is boring.  On the other hand if people read many pages on your website and come back many times then Google is convinced that they love the website and will move your website up in the rankings.  Getting people to visit your website for long periods of time and to come back over and over again is referred to as "stickiness".  Read more about website stickiness.

Originality

If you gave a friend a book and they loved it would you then give them another book with exactly the same words but a different cover?  Of course not!  Because you know it would be boring for your friend to read the same thing over and over again.  The software engineers realized this same thing.  And so they designed their software to lower the rankings or even ban websites that use the same text as other sites.  So if your website company is selling you a website that uses most of the same text as other  sites they have already built (This is a very common practice among companies that build sites for doctors, lawyers, dentists, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, financial planners, etc) their actions have pretty much assured that your website will never rank highly in the search engines and so is pretty much a boat anchor.  Would you like to find out if the text on your website also appears on other people's websites?  Read more about the importance of original text on your website.
